We could not actually do Frontier Friday today without incorporating an element of royal wedding frenzy. 'Unashamedly British' was the unanimous team recipe decision, so we bring to you today an easy peasy recipe for smoky strawberry skewers (thank you Tesco Mag!) and our simple stove-top girdle scones recipe.
Wake up tomorrow morning, light up that stunning stove and start your royal Saturday in style, courtesy of us!
Smoky Strawberry Skewers
400g strawberries (take out the green bits but keep them whole)
2 tsp vegetable oil (we used our very own Anevay stove maintenance oil as it is 100% pure and organic - can be used both for oiling the stove and for cooking!)
1 1/2 tbsp dark brown soft sugar
100g quark fat-free soft cheese
75ml whipping cream
handful small basil leaves (optional - we didn't use these but they're great for adding some green along with their gorgeous flavour)
We fired up our Frontier Plus and the flames were ready within a matter of minutes. We then threaded the strawberries and sprayed them with our oil (it comes in a nifty spray bottle for easy application). The skewers then went on the grill - we took off the stove plate lid, and sprinkled half the sugar on the strawberries.
Whilst these were grilling away, we whisked together the soft cheese, whipping cream and remaining sugar to form a thickish and decadent dip for the now-charred strawberry skewers.
Stove-Top Girdle Scones (properly Scottish!)
225g all-purpose flour
3 oz. unsalted butter, chilled and cut into cubes
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
½ teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
½ cup milk (we used soy milk)
½ cup raisins
Mix together the dry ingredients and add cold butter, rubbing the mixture until it forms a crumbly combination. Add the milk and mix to make sticky dough. Add the raisins and roll out onto an oaty surface until 1cm thick. Cook on greased, buttered griddle pan (we used this beautiful one from Netherton Foundry). Cook the scones on one side until golden then flip over to do the other side.
Enjoy warm off the stove with lashings of butter, jam and any other scone topping that you fancy!
